High school lead and co-creator (ages 14-18)

Full-time from January or August 2022

Do you have a passion for inspiring and empowering young people to build a beautiful, equitable and sustainable world? Do you want to co-create a high school of the future, now?

Join us at REAL School Budapest!

We are a growing international school for young people who will both imagine and shape tomorrow - and today. Through project-based learning, our students: discover the world and themselves, develop a sustainability mindset and the skills to make a difference, and learn to embrace change. Whilst we follow the English National Curriculum for literacy and numeracy, our heart-focus is on nurturing both the entrepreneurial and thinking skills, and the wellbeing and personal qualities of our students through real-life experiences.

We are inspired by Green School Bali - where our founding team previously worked. We offer our community an entrepreneurial, respectful, collaborative, kind, authentic, high-standards environment where they can bring out the best in themselves.

Are you ready for an unparalleled adventure?

    Your opportunity

To drive REAL School’s development and growth, we are currently seeking a Leader of the High School. We envision to offer creative, courageous, compassionate teenagers alternative pathways into higher education, the world of entrepreneurship, or the world of work. The position reports to the Principal.

    Your goals and responsibilities

    • Co-create a high school that offers young people a creative, courageous, curious, nurturing, safe community and various non-conventional pathways into further education or the world of work.

    • Lead the design of a holistic, blended online/in-person learning experience that embraces: real-life project-based learning for entrepreneurial skills and mindsets; sustainability; student agency; holistic wellbeing; systems thinking; arts-based learning; and a selection of traditional subject offerings that lead to widely recognised, exam-based high school qualifications.

    • Work with faculty on making learning visible and measurable, without the use of standardised tests or grades.

    • Recruit, lead and develop a diverse, like-minded and experienced high school faculty, and a body of inspirational consultants from outside school to engage with students as guides-by-the-side.

    • Act to promote the organisational wellbeing of the School, primarily by fostering positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the Governing Board to build a school environment where everybody can be their best self

    • Teach and mentor students part of the time; inspiring and guiding faculty through your passion for facilitating learning, and by modelling best practice in learning, behavioural and pastoral domains

    • Assume responsibility for the pastoral care of high school students, in collaboration with the Head of Community Wellbeing

    • Establish working relationships with the wider community, including worldwide further education institutions able to provide study opportunities for students with non-conventional high school qualifications

    • Research and learn from progressive education endeavours, build relationships with other like-minded schools, and share best practice. Stay current with trends, innovations and research in learning science, instructional media and learner behaviour.

    • Give talks, engage in education forums, build the School’s brand

    • Develop and take responsibility for the high school learning budget.

    • Add value to the whole-school strategic planning team.

    • Native or near-native English with high eloquence is essential.

    • An inspiring, confident yet humble leader, passionate about upholding our school culture.

    • A compassionate solution-finder, with capacity to mediate and mitigate issues both proactively and responsively.

    • Someone who has been involved with causes/projects to better the world sharing our passion for plant based food.

    • An openness to having your ideas respectfully challenged, and to spending time on the edge of your comfort zone.

    • A natural ability to establish strong, positive relationships with young people and their parents and to support both in their navigation of an unconventional high school journey.

    • An excellent communicator and perspective taker, able to describe a unique high school experience to both enamoured stakeholders and those who are unsure.

    • Someone who is confident alone, but who believes that we are stronger together in a team-based approach to creating.

    • Someone who is persistent, adaptable, highly resourceful, innovative, kind and compassionate, and desires to continuously improve and grow in a collaborative, changing and agile environment
