Ignite your learning & make a terrarium
During June learners will discover ecosystems and plants like you have never seen them before.
In these hands-on sessions you will get to understand how different variables affect the environment the surrounds us, and who are the key players in basic ecosystems.
At the end of these sessions, learners will create a self-sustained air-tight terrarium that you can keep indoors.
On our first session you will explore plants by making a sample of the house and garden plants, and understanding the role that: water, light, soil, temperature, and other living creatures have on their environment.
We'll transfer this knowledge to terrariums and how you can observe the different photosynthesis and water cycles alive in it. In this session you will also be researching where are the local garden and plant shops in your area to start planning for your terrarium.
On our second session you will dive into the depths of the fungi kingdom by doing different experiments related to spores and mycelium to understand the role this kingdom plays in sustaining life as we know it, as well as the effect of mold and fungal growth in plants.
In this session we will also be making a tentative selection for the plants for your terrariums as well as making the shopping list.
On our last session we'll make a terrarium! Get inspired by different layouts of terrariums and make an airtight model with your favourite mini plants using the knowledge we have been collecting through the prior sessions.
NOTE: June's sessions are 80 mins long and might require the learners to continue working outside of hours to upkeep their plants.
What is ignite?
Learnlife ignite is for any learner who wants to turn a spark of interest into a passion! Each month we choose a new theme based on the most popular sessions in our Spark Programme and give learners the opportunity to learn, create and explore more deeply.
This programme runs for four weeks with one hour-long session each week.
